Our Headmistress

Susan Vaughey graduated from the University of Sheffield after completing a Teacher Training Course at Wentworth Castle College of Education in Barnsley.

Mrs Vaughey specialised in the teaching of the primary age group of 3 to 11 years. Her specialist subjects were Science and Mathematics.

Mrs Vaughey taught for the Wakefield Education Authority, gaining further experience in Mathematics and as a class teacher at junior level. At this stage she also worked with colleagues in the Bradford Education Authority gaining experience in Mathematics and the infant level.

Mrs Vaughey moved to teaching within the Kirklees Education Authority within the Nursery, Infant and Junior schools where she gained promotion to Headship.

She used her Science experience within Kirklees schools as a trainer for the LEA, providing in-service training for teachers. She was a member of the Kirklees Science Working Party, writing the Health Education and Science Policies; worked alongside the Educational Psychology Department; was a founder working party member of the ‘National Paired Reading Strategy’ and the ‘Paired M.A.T.H.’s Project’. She was also a founder member of the ‘My Body Project’.

Mrs Vaughey trained with the Health Education Authority in order to train teachers within Kirklees LEA.

Mrs Vaughey has continued, throughout her career, to add to her professional qualifications. She studied at Bretton Hall College to gain a Certificate in Primary/Middle School Science: she also studied at Leeds University and gained an Advanced Diploma in School Focused Professional Development.

During 1994, Mrs Vaughey founded Rastrick Independent School, an ISA Independent Co-Educational Day School for children from birth to eighteen years and beyond.

She holds the position of Director/Owner and Headmistress.

She became a Registered Nursery Education Inspector 

In June 2001 she opened The Northern Centre for CHI (Children of High Intelligence) which is based at the school. This caters for the children of Rastrick Independent School.
