Special Educational needs

The College recognises that there are many forms of special educational needs. Our assessment combined with any existing diagnosis would be reflected in the learning programme. This may include extra support or tutorials.

Personalised Diagnostic Assessment for external students

Our assessment programme includes a half day Personalised Diagnostic Assessment for external students who are not registered at the College. This half day diagnostic programme will assess your child for IQ potential; establish where your child is on the learning curve for their age group, their ability and predictive tests for 11+ or GCSE. This Personalised Diagnostic Assessment also applies to dyslexia assessment or special educational needs.

Academic Tuition and Study Years 1 – 9

Tuition is available in all subjects. The first lessons are for assessment purposes. There is a choice of number of weekly lessons. Tuition includes reading, writing spelling grammar and individual subjects.

Tuition for 11+ Maintained Grammar and Independent Schools (Years 3, 4 and 5)

Tuition is in English, Mathematics, Verbal/Non Verbal Reasoning. There is a choice of a number of weekly lessons the first lessons are for assessment purposes.

Intensive 11+ Preparation in Year 6

Four weeks (September) intensive 11+ preparation for Year 6 pupils. Tuition is in Verbal/Non Verbal reasoning and Mathematics. Three lessons of one hour weekly with choice of times, no assessment for pupils entered for Grammar School.

These contain course books, past papers and subject support and homework diary to liaise with parents.

GCSE, IGCE and A-level study

First time GCSE study

A GCSE course is usually a two year course. We also offer one year, two terms, one term and you can join us at any stage of the process. Tuition is available in all GCSE subjects for Years 10, 11, 12, 13 and adult. Students normally require three lessons a week, plus two lessons per fortnight for practicals but you can have as many lessons each week as you choose. There are a number of weekly sessions to choose from – daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays.

First time A-level study

An A-level course is usually a two year course. One year for AS Level and a second for A2. Tuition is available in all A-level subjects. Students normally require four lessons a week, plus two lessons per fortnight for practicals but you can have as many lessons each week as you choose. There are a number of weekly sessions to choose from – daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Transition to AS and A2

An intensive course over the summer holiday to prepare students for transition from GCSE to advanced level study. The focus is on developing the skills needed to succeed at advanced level.

An intensive 20 week course. Two, one hour lessons per week. Choice of day, evenings, Saturdays and/or holiday time.

Two, one hour lessons per fortnight.

Sixth Form Tutorial College

Please note, the Sixth Form College is part of Rastrick Independent School and is its unique Sixth Form. This day time College operates a uniform policy, is billed as a School department and is a separate entity for students sitting GCSE and A-levels for the first time as well as enabling re sits at GCSE and A-level.

AS and A2 Levels

This is for years 12, 13 and adults. Your choice of the number of subjects studied either first time or as retakes will dictate your timetable. Study can be full time or part time, depending on your subject choice. The minimum period of study is 15 hours a week.

Vocational Subjects

NVQ and BTEC study will be costed individually once we have decided on your course of study. Work experience and links with industry will also be included in your chosen course.

Examinations for private candidates

Rastrick Tutorial College is a Registered Examination Centre with all of the main UK Examination Boards.
You can utilise the College Examination facilities as a Private Candidate. You may also take your Practical Examinations with us.

Examination entry charges include the fee to the examination board, invigilation and our administration charges.

Practical examination fee : £350/subject for one full day

Resits are available in June.
First time GCSE A2 and AS Levels can be taken in May.

Easter Revision

This is available for English, Mathematics and Science (other subjects available on request). It consists of revision of the core topics of the subjects and completing past papers. The course is available over four days and is offered on two separate weeks.

A-level revision course: £500/week

Mathematics revision course (half days): £250/week

Summer School and Summer Revision

The summer school includes:

  • Summer revision courses (all subjects, all ages)
  • Intensive tuition for GCSE – English Mathematics and Science

There is also a full leisure programme within the Summer School which incorporate The British Experience for our International Students.
